India’s Tractor Industry Hits Major Production Milestones

Mahindra FEB Crosses 70 Lakh Tractors

Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Business (FEB), which includes the Mahindra, Swaraj and Gromax brands, has produced more than 70 lakh tractors since beginning operations in 1963. The milestone comes after a record FY26 for the company. Mahindra FEB sold more than 5.26 lakh tractors during FY26, its highest-ever annual sales figure. The company is also preparing to introduce seven new tractors in FY27, indicating continued focus on product expansion and market growth.

Sonalika Produces Its 20 Lakhth Tractor

Sonalika Tractors has achieved a major manufacturing milestone by rolling out its 20 lakhth tractor from its Hoshiarpur, Punjab facility. The comapny produced its first tractor in 1996 and crossed the 10 lakh production mark in 2020. The company has now doubled that production figure in just six years. Tractors manufactured at the Hoshiarpur plant are exported to more than 150 countries, giving the facility an important role in Sonalika’s domestic and international operations.

CNH Noida Plant Crosses 8 Lakh Tractors

CNH Industrial’s Noida manufacturing facility has reached 8 lakh tractors produced. The plant crossed the 7 lakh mark in July 2024. Reaching the next 1 lakh tractors in just 668 days demonstrates the increasing pace of production at the facility. The milestone also reflects the continued importance of India as a manufacturing base for CNH’s tractor business.

Solis-Yanmar Production Crosses 30,000 Units

The Solis-Yanmar partnership has also recorded significant production growth, with its YM tractor range crossing 30,000 units. Production has increased from around 13,000 tractors in 2022 to more than 30,000, meaning over 17,000 additional tractors have been produced in four years.

The growth highlights the expanding scale of the Japan-India partnership and the increasing production of Yanmar-based tractor technology in India.

What These Milestones Mean for the Tractor Industry

Taken together, these milestones show that India’s tractor manufacturing sector is expanding across both established manufacturers and international partnerships.

Mahindra’s 70-lakh milestone reflects decades of large-scale production, while Sonalika’s jump from 10 lakh to 20 lakh tractors in six years points to faster manufacturing growth. CNH’s addition of 1 lakh tractors in less than two years and the rapid increase in Solis-Yanmar production further underline this trend.

For farmers, higher manufacturing capacity can mean more tractor models, improved availability, faster product upgrades and greater access to modern farm mechanisation solutions.

Krishi Vikas’s Take

The key takeaway is not just the size of these numbers, but the speed at which production is increasing. India is emerging as an increasingly important hub for tractor manufacturing, serving both its large domestic market and growing export demand. As manufacturers continue investing in capacity, technology and new products, the next phase of India’s tractor industry could be defined by higher production, wider product choices and faster adoption of farm mechanisation.
